POUGHKEEPSIE – City Police in Poughkeepsie are investigating the shooting of a teenage boy that occurred Thursday afternoon near the eastbound arterial.

City 911 received multiple reports of shots fired near 349 Church Street (eastbound arterial) at approximately 2:55 p.m. on Thursday.  As police were responding, they received a second report of shots fired near the intersection of Bement Avenue and Harrison Street.  Police officers from multiple agencies responded to both locations.

Officers responding to the Bement Avenue location found no victims and no evidence that a shooting had taken place.

City of Poughkeepsie officers responding to the 349 Church Street call located a teenage victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound.  The scene was secured and Mobile Life Support Services personnel were allowed to proceed in and triage the victim before transporting him to a local hospital, with an officer riding with the victim.

The City of Poughkeepsie Police, assisted by personnel from the New York State Police, Town of Poughkeepsie Police K-9, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, and the MTA Police, shut down the eastbound arterial and South White Street between Main and Church Streets while detectives investigated the scene and crime scene technicians collected evidence, including numerous shell casings.

Sources have told Mid-Hudson News that the teenage victim was walking home from Poughkeepsie High School when he was shot near the intersection of South White and Church Streets.  Reports indicate that the victim sustained a bullet wound to his left forearm and is expected to make a full recovery.
