Poughkeepsie cops catch man wanted for attempted murder

POUGHKEEPSIE – A traffic stop in the City of Poughkeepsie on Wednesday resulted in the recovery of a loaded handgun and the arrest of two men; one with a warrant for attempted murder.

Handgun recovered from Reyes and Irving

City of Poughkeepsie police stopped a vehicle in the area of 11 Boulevard Knolls on Wednesday for a vehicle and traffic infraction.  During the course of the stop, officers recovered a loaded Smith & Wesson semi-automatic handgun.  The two occupants, Carlos Reyes Jr., and Andre Irving were taken into custody after the discovery.

Reyes, 30, was arrested and charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon for the handgun. Reyes was also arrested on a Dutchess County Court Warrant of Arrest for the felonies of attempted murder, attempted assault and criminal possession of a weapon. 

Twenty-nine-year-old Andre Irving was arrested and charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon.

Police have responded to the area of Boulevard Knolls for numerous reports of shots fired in recent months.

Both men were held at police headquarters pending arraignment.
