GOSHEN – In the wake of recent tragic events, including the racist murders of black shoppers at a Buffalo supermarket, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office reminds county residents that it provides active shooter/hostile event mitigation training.

This is the first of a three-step process is for any local hospital, school, house of worship, retail business, or office seeking training to mitigate hostile event situations.

The sheriff’s office Special Operations Group will conduct a site assessment looking for physical security of the establishment and give suggestions for improvement, then provide training on a managerial level as well as training for the workforce.

“Organizations should take advantage of this free service to address security concerns and establish reliable plans to be utilized in case of an emergency,” said Undersheriff Kenneth Jones. “An organization that has reliable plans and practices, their implementation will likely reduce the impact of such events.”
