MIDDLETOWN – Temperatures are rising through the 70s as summer approaches, but the Middletown Common Council Tuesday night voted to purchase a large portable ice skating for next winter.

The rink will be purchased with city community development funding; the cost was not mentioned at the council session.

Mayor Joseph DeStefano said it will be a welcomed addition to winter recreation in the city.

“The program will be under the pavilion. We are excited about it. The target group is young kids, but the rink will be 30-by-80, will be up and running hopefully by the time we do the tree lighting this year,” he said.

The rink will be functional up to 55 degree air temperature.
