WASHINGTON – The new House of Representative districts have been drawn by the court-appointed Special Master, with a new 18th District representing Orange County, southern Ulster and all of Dutchess County.

Ulster County Executive Patrick Ryan announced on Twitter that he will run for the new seat.

Should he win and step down as executive, Ulster County Comptroller March Gallagher said she will run for the county’s top job. “If elected, I will build on my experience and successes as county comptroller to continue Pat’s good work here in Ulster,” she said.

State Senator James Skoufis (D, Cornwall) tweeted that he is “seriously considering” a run for the new district seat.

“My team and I have beaten formidable opponents every two years – in a Trump district each and every time – while maintaining a laser-focused vision on delivering for the Hudson Valley and upholding our Democratic ideals,” Skoufis wrote.

The new 17th District would encompass much of the lower Hudson Valley and incumbent Democrat Sean Patrick Maloney will run in that district.

“While the process to draw these maps without the legislature is against the will of voters, if the newly-announced maps are finalized, I will run in New York’s 17th Congressional District. NY-17 includes my home and many of the Hudson Valley communities I currently represent,” Maloney tweeted.

Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro, who previously announced his intentions to run, said he will be a candidate in the new 19th District.

State Assemblyman Colin Schmitt (R, New Windsor), has been a declared candidate in the current 18th District held by Democrat Sean Patrick Maloney. If the new districts stand, the incumbent will run in the new 17th District.

“I will continue running as the endorsed Republican and Conservative candidate in the newly redrawn NY-18,” said Schmitt. “It is clear as day that with the withdrawal of Sean Maloney, the DCCC chair from this race, we were winning and that no matter the candidate we face off against in November, we will win.”
