Spray-painted messages in Pine Brook Estates

HYDE PARK – A recent uptick in vandalism in a Hyde Park neighborhood has drawn the attention of a county legislator and the Hyde Park Police.  The spray-painted messages include swastikas and racially charged language.

Dutchess County Legislator Ben Geller told Mid-Hudson News that the problem began last week in the Pine Brook Estates neighborhood where swastikas have been spray-painted on the streets, street signs have been damaged, and other signs have been stolen.  The Hyde Park Police Department has assigned a detective to the investigation and patrols in the area have been increased.

Hyde Park Highway Superintendent Howie Fisher and his department have had to replace two stop signs and one speed limit sign has been replaced as a result of the vandalism.

Geller noted that residents in the area that have surveillance doorbell cameras are currently reviewing the available footage in an effort to help the police investigation.

“Hate has no home in Hyde Park. I’m beyond disgusted at the bigotry & repeat vandalism in this neighborhood,” Geller said.

Anyone with information regarding the vandalism is asked to call the Hyde Park Police Department at 845-229-9340 or email them to HydeParkPoliceTips@hydeparkny.us.
