WEST POINT – Close to 1,000 cadets are expected to graduate from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and be commissioned as second lieutenants in the Army on Saturday, May 21.

The commencement speaker will be Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley.

He is the 20th chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the nation’s highest ranking military officer, and the principal military advisor to the President, Secretary of Defense, and National Security Council.

Prior to becoming chairman on October 1, 2019, Milley served as the 39th Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army.

In his address to graduating West Point cadets, Gen. Milley will likely discuss Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. He told CNN in a recent interview that “If this is left to stand. If there is no answer to this aggression. If Russia gets away with this cost-free, then so goes the so-called international order.

He told CNN that “What’s at stake is the security of Europe, adding that Russia’s invasion “is the greatest challenge to the security of Europe since the end of World War II.”
