MONTICELLO – Two Monticello men have been arrested on felony robbery charges after a Saturday morning robbery at a local hotel.  One suspect is in jail and the other was released on an appearance ticket.

Thirty-six-year-old Tyler McMillen has been charged with the felonies of robbery and criminal possession of a weapon, and the misdemeanors of petit larceny and resisting arrest.  Darren Hall, age 27, was charged with felony robbery and misdemeanor petit larceny.

Lieutenant Mark Johnstone said police responded to the Inn at Monticello, 392 Broadway after a 25-year-old man reported that he was the victim of a robbery that occurred at the hotel.  The victim said that McMillan and Hall, working together, forcibly robbed the victim of his wallet and backpack.

McMillen allegedly also threatened to shoot the victim with a loaded orange flare pistol.  The pistol was the property of the victim and had been located in his backpack.

When officers arrived at the room where the incident occurred, they located the victim’s property strewn on a bed and the orange flare pistol on the floor. McMillen was also found to have the victim’s wallet in his pants pocket. McMillen briefly struggled with arresting officers before being taken into custody.

McMillen and Hall were both arraigned in the Village of Monticello Justice Court. McMillen, a convicted felon, was remanded to the Sullivan County Jail on $25,000.00 cash bail, $50,000.00 bail bond, or $100,000.00 secured insurance bond pending further current action. Hall was released on his own recognizance as per current NYS bail reform guidelines, according to Lieutenant Johnstone.
