GOSHEN – During the annual Orange County Law Enforcement Memorial Service on Friday, the Fraternal Order of Police Jason Conklin Memorial Lodge #957 honored five former New York City police officers, Orange County residents, who succumbed to the toxic exposure from the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center.

Detectives George Remouns, Thomas Barnitt, and Sean Franklin, along with Sergeant Gary Franklin, and Lieutenant Jennifer Meacham were honored during the annual memorial service.

The memorial service was conducted at the entrance of the Orange County courthouse, where two monuments honor other federal, state, and local law enforcement officers, who have lived, worked or died in the county in the line of duty, and the five named above now have their names engraved on one of those monuments.

“We do it to honor our fallen heroes,” said Mike McGinn, president of Jason Conklin Memorial Lodge # 957. “It’s for the family members so that they know that their loss has not been forgotten by their brothers and sisters. We’re never going to forget them.”
