KINGSTON – The population density in the 11-county 19th Congressional District of New York is in the Mid-Hudson Valley – Dutchess and Ulster counties.

With Congressman Antonio Delgado taking over as state lieutenant governor, two names from the area have surfaced as the potential Democratic candidate to fill that seat – Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan and State Senator Michelle Hinchey.

Ryan has yet to say anything, and Hinchey said, “We always consider,” when asked about Washington.

“My job is to make sure that I can advocate for the people who live in my community as best as I can and we are always looking and we are always looking at ways we can do that best,” she said.

Whoever gets the Democratic nod will face Republican Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro.

“The district lines have changed, the opponents have changed, but the thing that hasn’t is my commitment to earn the votes of the residents and voters of the 19th Congressional District, my commitment to delivering real results for the families, farmers and small businesses of this district,” he said.

A date for a special election to fill Delgado’s seat is expected within days and that election within weeks.
