KINGSTON – Alderwoman Michele Hirsch has called for the Kingston Common Council to commence a fully independent investigation into the city police department in relation to the recent rulings issued by County Court Judge Bryan Rounds in connection with the acquittal of Raymond Snyder.

He was charged with murder for allegedly shooting 47-year-old Romero Underwood in his St. James Street home on July 11, 2020.

Hirsch asked the common council to approve the investigation at its Tuesday night meeting; however, none of the other seven lawmakers would second the motion.

“I’m concerned with the events that there is a possibility of perjury and situation that we were not complying with the requirements of discovery and when the ruling was handed down by Hon. Bryan Rounds last Friday, no action was taken by our police chief, police commission or the mayor,” she said.

In light of Hirsch’s call for an investigation, she said the police commission, chief and mayor said they would all look into the issues at the commission’s May 18 meeting.
