RHINEBECK – An Amtrak train traveling from Chicago to New York City struck and killed a pedestrian who was trespassing on the track north of the Rhinecliff-Kingston Station, a railroad spokesman told Mid-Hudson News.

The incident occurred at around 4:40 p.m. on Sunday.

There were no injuries to passengers or crew onboard Amtrak train.

The railroad is working with local law enforcement including State Police to investigate the incident.

According to the Federal Railroad Administration, trespassing along railroad rights-of-way is the leading cause of rail-related deaths in America, and railroad crossing incidents are the second leading cause of rail-related deaths.
