POUGHKEEPSIE – Three students at Poughkeepsie Middle School (PMS) were taken to the hospital by ambulance on Friday after at least two appeared to have overdosed on an unidentified drug.  City firefighters and Mobile Life ambulance personnel responded to PMS early Friday afternoon after two students were reported to be “semi-conscious.”

The building went into a “hold-in-place” protocol to keep the hallways clear of students as the two patients, reported to be girls, were tended to prior to being transported to the hospital.

Initial reports indicate that a third student was also transported by ambulance to a hospital shortly after the first two students were transported.

A source told Mid-Hudson News that the students were reported to be suffering from a reaction to a drug that they had ingested.

Poughkeepsie City School District Superintendent Dr. Eric Rosser told Mid-Hudson News that “The district is investigating an isolated incident in which three students required medical attention after ingesting a substance.”  Rosser noted that PMS staff and district officials are working with the families of the affected students as part of the investigation.
