SAUGERTIES – Plans for the Winston Farm project in Saugerties were laid out for members of the Ulster County Regional Chamber of Commerce Wednesday at the Diamond Mills Hotel and Tavern. The focus is the development of the 800-acre Winston Farm, the site of Woodstock ’94.

“Winston Farm is a prime development site in Saugerties, and at this point we are going through the application process to rezone the property to provide a variety of options for development,” said Josh Sommers, a project spokesperson.

Tony Montano, John Mullen, and Randy Richers own the site, and Sommers said the new owners envision a mixed-use for the site to include housing or commercial uses.”

Other possible uses include entertainment opportunities such as an amphitheater or for tourism such as a boutique hotel or a campground. And half of the 800-acre site has been designated as open space.

Sommers said Montano, Mullen and Richers will seek public comment of how the site should be used in the future.

“The new owners of the property really want to take the opportunity to envision the site in a way that will create jobs and opportunities versus just putting housing there,” he said. “They really want to create an opportunity for families to have their kids live and work in the community. It’s a great opportunity to talk to people in the community to see what they would like to see.”

No timetable is set for development yet, said Sommers, since an environmental review must be conducted.
