MIDDLETOWN – The fire-damaged shell of the O&W Station in Middletown is on track for a new life.

Initial studies have begun on the $11.6 million restoration project.  Mayor Joseph DeStefano told the common council Tuesday night that an environmental investigation is underway.

“They have to examine every part of the building to make sure there is no asbestos in the building,” he said.

Funding for the project is coming from a number of sources.

An early childhood learning center for children of migrant workers has already committed to renting space in the facility once it has been completed.
