HYDE PARK – School officials and local police removed a high school student from the school grounds on Monday after he was found in possession of an Airsoft weapon.
The principal of FD Roosevelt High School in Staatsburg sent a notice out to district parents on Monday afternoon.
The letter from Principal Michael Ruella said that the School Resource Officer (SRO) from the Hyde Park Police Department was advised that a student was possibly in possession of an Airsoft pistol on school property. The SRO and building administrators investigated and found the report to be accurate.
Airsoft guns are realistic-looking guns that shoot non-metallic projectiles, usually made of plastic.
The weapon was secured and the student was removed from the building.
Principal Ruella assured parents that all individuals remained safe during the investigation.
