Poughkeepsie police recover three handguns during traffic stop

POUGHKEEPSIE – A traffic stop by City of Poughkeepsie police in the area of Forbus Street and Virginia Avenue just before 10:00 p.m. Wednesday night resulted in three teens being detained and three loaded handguns being recovered.

City of Poughkeepsie Police Captain Rich Wilson told Mid-Hudson News that patrol officers stopped the vehicle with five occupants in relation to recent criminal activity in the area where the car was stopped.  During the investigation, officers recovered three loaded handguns from the vehicle.

Three of the juveniles were transported to the police department’s juvenile division for further investigation.  Two of the teens were arraigned on gun possession charges and the third was arraigned on an outstanding bench warrant.

The vehicle that the juveniles were in was impounded by the police.

Captain Wilson also said that anyone with information regarding criminal activity in the city can provide confidential information by calling the police department’s TIP LINE at 845-451-7577.
