POUGHKEEPSIE – A Wednesday shooting in Poughkeepsie resulted in one victim being transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds.  The shooting in the area of 6 Morgan Avenue was reported minutes before 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police, fire, and EMS arrived at the scene moments after the call to the city 911 center.  A male victim, described as being in his “mid-30s” by a neighbor, was located with gunshot wounds to both his chest and leg.  He was treated at the scene by Poughkeepsie firefighters and transported to a local hospital by Mobile Life ambulance staff.

Morgan Avenue was closed to traffic between Mansion and Cottage Streets as officers canvassed the area for evidence and interviewed potential witnesses.  A handgun was reported to have been recovered in a backyard of a house near the location of the shooting.

Shell casings were located on Morgan Avenue and others were located on Cottage Street.

As police were canvassing the area, Debra Long, the director of SNUG and First Ward Councilwoman for the city arrived, to offer assistance and gather facts.  SNUG is an outreach program aimed at interrupting potential gun violence and receives state funding for its operation.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone that might have information to call the confidential TIP LINE at 845-451-7577.  Anonymous tips can also be submitted electronically by clicking here.
