POUGHKEEPSIE – Republican Dean Michael, a 14-year Town of Clinton councilman has filed nominating petitions to force a primary against fellow Republican Brandon Gaylord.  The winner will face Democratic Assemblywoman Didi Barrett for the 106th district seat.

The 106th district includes parts of Dutchess and Columbia counties.  In March, the Dutchess County GOP Committee nominated Columbia County’s Brandon Gaylord to oppose Barrett.  Michael, who lost to Barrett in 2020, went to work to secure Republican signatures on petitions to force a primary against Gaylord.

Michael filed the required number of signatures forcing a party battle between the two men.  Registered Republicans will choose between the two on June 28.  Michael has been campaigning on the platform that lawmakers have taken power away from the people and he wants to reverse the course.  “I want to restore these rights, and I will start by giving the people a choice in this year’s election as to who is the best candidate to represent them in Albany.
