POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County Sheriff candidate Jillian Hanlon and State Assembly candidate in the 105th District, Jill Fieldstein, both Democrats, filed petitions with the Board of Elections on Monday to be placed on the fall general election ballot.
To run for sheriff, candidates must file a minimum of 2,000 signatures; Hanlon filed more than 4,300.
Assembly candidates must file a minimum of 500 signatures; Fieldstein filed just under 1,300.
“I have been talking to voters across the county and they are excited to elect an experienced candidate who will dismantle the old boys’ club and bring our sheriff’s office into the 21st century,” said Hanlon, who has worked for the office for years. She will face a challenge from Undersheriff Kirk Imperati, who is presently serving as acting sheriff.
“Voters are ready for representation in Albany that will bring real, sustainable growth to the 105th Assembly District – and I am ready to deliver,” said Fieldstein. That’s the seat being vacated by Republican Kieran Michael Lalor.
Dutchess Democrats also secured more than 2,600 signatures for Jamie Cheney, who is running for the 43rd Senate District, which also includes parts of Columbia and Rensselaer counties.
“Collecting petitions signatures takes hard work and commitment, so it’s a testament to the quality of our candidates and the dedication of our volunteer membership that we gathered more than 21,000 signatures in just a single month,” said Dutchess Democratic Chairwoman Julie Shiroishi.
