FISHKILL – The electric vehicle (EV) charging station at Fishkill Town Hall is being made available to the public. Several municipalities across the region offer EV charging facilities for public use.

The charging station was installed at the town hall a year after Town Supervisor Ozzy Albra spent more than $41,000 of town money to purchase an electric Ford Mustang SUV as his official vehicle.

For a fee of $2 per hour, collected through ChargePoint, a national EV charging station network, EV owners can plug in and recharge their vehicle.  Town Councilman Carmine Istvan told Mid-Hudson News that ChargePoint collects the hourly rate and then gives a portion of the proceeds to the town.

To use the ChargePoint charger, EV owners must have a ChargePoint account. The charging company’s website also gives users the ability to download their app used to locate other charging stations.

The town owns an electric Ford Mach-E SUV for official business use, which can charge from empty to a full 200-mile range in approximately eight hours, according to a newsletter distributed by Albra. According to the supervisor, the charging of the Mustang equates to a total of $16, or about four gallons of gasoline under current market conditions.

“This charging station is another asset for Fishkill residents, and I hope they will derive a great benefit from it now and in the future,” Albra said.
