STONY POINT – A 28-year-old Stony Point man has been convicted by a jury of criminal contempt for grabbing a pregnant woman from behind and bringing her to the ground.

The incident involving Eric Tranholm occurred on August 25, 2021 at the Budget Motor Inn in the Town of Stony Point. At the time, there was a valid order of protection issued by Spring Valley Village Justice Court against Tranholm protecting the victim.

The trial, which began on March 24 and ended on the 30th, included playing motel video surveillance for jurors and listening to a 9 11 call describing Tranholm putting his hands on the pregnant woman.

After a brief deliberation, the jury returned a verdict and found him guilty as charged.

“This victim in this case and her unborn child could have been seriously injured by the defendant’s actions,” said Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Walsh. “I commend the officers from the Stony Point Police Department for their professionalism and assistance on this case.”

Tranholm was remanded to the Rockland County Jail pending sentencing scheduled for late May.
