LIBERTY – Village police in Liberty arrested a 30-year-old Liberty man on Sunday after receiving reports of a man waving a gun at passing motorists.  The man was additionally charged with another crime after pulling a fire alarm in the Town of Liberty Justice Court after his arraignment.

Taquanne Brooks was arrested after police investigated reports of a man threatening motorists with a handgun on Lake Street in the village.  Police, based on descriptions provided by witnesses, located the subject in the area, armed with a realistic-looking handgun that was later determined to be a BB pistol.  Brooks was arrested and charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon and misdemeanor menacing.

He was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and remanded to Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail, $10,000 secured bond, or $15,000 unsecured bond.

Immediately after his arraignment, Brooks pulled a fire alarm in the courthouse, despite no fire being present. That action led to Brooks being charged with the felony of falsely reporting an incident.

Brooks is due to appear in Town of Liberty Court again on March 30.
