POUGHKEEPSIE – City of Poughkeepsie firefighters rescued a man from a creek Thursday morning.  The rescue took place near the intersection of Washington Street and Brookside Avenue around 7:00 a.m.

The city’s career firefighters from Engines 1 and 4, assisted by Ladder 1 responded to the scene along with the duty captain after receiving a report of a man in the creek with a leg injury.

The first responders geared up in their water rescue drysuits and used ladders to descend into Fallkill Creek to rescue the man.  Secured by ropes, the men made their way to the victim and assisted him back up the ladder to dry ground.

The rescued victim, according to sources, had been in the water for an extended period of time.  He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
