SAUGERTIES – A 69-year-old Mount Marion Park man has been charged with riding a bicycle while wearing earbuds connected to an audio device. Alonzo Day was also charged by Saugerties Police with failing to signal a turn, both violations of state vehicle and traffic law.
Day’s problems didn’t end there.
Police said he was pedaling in the area of 963 Kings Highway in Mount Marion on Thursday, March 24 when he abruptly turned left into the path of a 2012 Kia Optima, also traveling north on Kings Highway.
Day, who was not wearing a bicycle helmet, sustained leg and head injuries, was treated at the scene by DIAZ ambulance and members of the Mount Marion Fire Department before being brought to the hospital.
State Police assisting in closing the road to traffic during the investigation.
