Man accused of punching trooper in face after being released on DWI charge

CORTLANDT – An accused drunk driver was re-arrested after he allegedly punched a State Trooper in the face as he was being released. The 22-year-old Cortlandt man now faces a felony charge in addition to the misdemeanor DWI charge.

On March 20, 2022, the New York State Police in Cortlandt arrested Bryan Illescas, age 22, of Cortlandt, for misdemeanor DWI and felony assault.

At approximately 2:51 a.m., troopers stopped a 2008 Subaru Impreza on Lexington Avenue for multiple vehicle and traffic law violations in the town of Cortlandt.  An investigation determined the operator, Bryan Illescas, was driving while intoxicated.  After arrest processing, Illescas was turned over to a family member.  While being released from custody, Illescas punched the trooper in the face causing injury.  Illescas was placed under arrest again and processed for assaulting a police officer.

Illescas was arraigned in Cortlandt town court and released on his own recognizance.
