Man leaves cell phone and personal papers at store he burglarized

SAUGERTIES – A Kingston man has been charged with felony burglary after an incident at the Sunoco gas station on Route 32 in Saugerties.  The alleged crimes occurred on Friday, March 18.

According to Saugerties Police Chief Joseph Sinagra, 36-year-old Michael Spiecker was arrested and charged with felony burglary along with the misdemeanors of criminal mischief and petit larceny for breaking into the gas station.

Saugerties Police Officers responded to a burglary alarm at the gas station at 2:30 a.m. on Friday.  The officers observed that someone had thrown a large rock through the glass doors and gained entry.  The investigation determined that the burglar had stolen cash, lottery tickets, and packs of cigarettes.  While processing the crime scene, officers recovered a cell phone and personal documents belonging to Spiecker.

Spiecker was brought in for questioning later in the day on Friday and was arrested at 7:46 p.m.  He was arraigned and issued appearance tickets for a March 23 court date.
