SHOKAN – Government agencies, non-profit organizations, schools, and universities may now apply to the Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Program for stream management grants through March 9.

Grant categories include education, research, planning, infrastructure improvement, and stream restoration. Projects must be located in the Ashokan Reservoir watershed. For more information and application materials, visit the grant program website at http://ashokanstreams.org/projects-funding/.

Funding for the Stream Management Implementation Program grant program is provided by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection and administered by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County.

The program has awarded over $7.5 million for stream and floodplain management projects in the Ashokan watershed since the grant program began in 2009.

It funded completion of six stream projects in 2021 that addressed flooding and stream erosion. Projects totaling $1 million in grant funding were undertaken by the towns of Shandaken and Woodstock, and by Ulster County.

The program also awarded five new grants to local municipalities for projects totaling $588,730.
