GOSHEN – The Orange County Republican Committee Saturday chose former County Sheriff’s Office Captain Paul Arteta as their choice to run for sheriff this fall.

He retired from the sheriff’s office last year and is currently deputy chief in the Village of Montgomery Police Department.

Arteta is expected to face a challenge from Undersheriff Ken Jones in the June 28 primary.

In the 18th Congressional District, the GOP committee chose State Assemblyman Colin Schmitt.

With redistricting, the county was cut in half with the new 17th District on the west side. Republicans have no candidate for that post.

On the state level, Assemblyman Karl Brabenec was endorsed. In the new 99th District, Town of Woodbury Councilwoman Kathryn Luciani was endorsed.

The 100th Assembly District will see Lisa LaBue challenging incumbent Democrat Aileen Gunther.

Republicans have no candidate to challenge Democratic incumbent Jonathan Jacobson in the 104th Assembly District.

In the 41st State Senate District, currently represented by Democrat James Skoufis, Republican Ronny Biz was endorsed.

In the 44th Senate District, incumbent Republican Michael Martucci was endorsed.
