Suspect in custody after vicious axe attack

FISHKILL – A 66-year-old Fishkill man is in the hospital after being attacked by a 46-year-old Middletown resident at a Fishkill storage facility on Friday.  The Middletown man has been arrested on the charge of attempted murder.

 

State troopers and Fishkill Police responded to the E-Z Storage facility on Route 9D at 8:45 a.m. for a report of a man using an axe to assault another man.  Upon arrival, officers located both the victim and the alleged assailant.

 

Tarek Hardanger, who had sustained serious injuries during the attack, was transported to Westchester Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.

 

State Police also located the suspect, Jamal Alsayes, at the scene.  He was taken into custody, arraigned in the Town of Wappinger Justice Court, and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.

 

Police say that the community was not in direct danger of being assaulted by the suspect.
