NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh has settled a $30 million lawsuit over the use of its Mid-Broadway property for $800,000. The city council approved the settlement at its Monday night session.

At issue was restrictions over some uses for the property, which is now a grass-covered lot.

Mayor Torrance Harvey told Mid-Hudson News that a future use has yet to be determined.

“The public would love to have that as a recreational facility for the kids in that neighborhood, but we have to decide on that,” he said.

At one point years ago, there was discussion with a former owner of building the SUNY Orange Newburgh campus there and later the city considered allowing a developer to construct apartments and a supermarket there.
