MAMAKATING – A man who asked a homeowner for directions and if he could use the bathroom, attacked the man with a knife stabbing him repeatedly.

The attacker, later identified as Brian Scott, 21, of Mamakating, was charged with attempted murder in the assault that took place at around 2:43 p.m. on February 3.

State Police from the Wurtsboro barracks were called to a reported assault on Locust Trail in Mamakating. While en route, they received several calls about a white man wearing a black mask and carrying a shotgun while walking down the road.

Troopers located Scott at the intersection of Firmwood Road and Locust Trail. He offered no resistance and was taken into custody. He did not have a shotgun with him, but it was later found in a snowbank.

When Scott fled the home, he took the shotgun from the residence.

The stabbing victim was treated and released from a hospital.

Scott was remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without bail.
