POUGHKEEPSIE – City police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred on Main Street on Friday, February 4. The incident occurred in the vicinity of the Market Fresh Supermarket on Main Street.
City of Poughkeepsie police officers responded to the report of a gunpoint robbery in the area of 690 Main Street at approximately 5:36 p.m. on Friday and located a female crime victim.
The woman told officers that a man had been following her just before he attempted to steal her pocketbook. The victim resisted his attempt at which point, she said, he pointed a handgun at her and demanded that she surrender the pocketbook.
The suspect took the bag and fled and foot. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect. The Town of Poughkeepsie police also assisted in the search.
