MONTICELLO – A 40-year-old Hurleyville man has been convicted by a Sullivan County jury of felony aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger, misdemeanors of endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment, and several traffic violations.

District Attorney Meagan Galligan said the jury found Jacob Crawley, 40, sped along West Broadway in the Village of Monticello, while he was intoxicated, with a six-year-old child and an open container of alcohol in his car, nearly striking a uniformed police officer who was engaged in an unrelated vehicle and traffic stop on July 7, 2019, at about 1:50 a.m.

The trial concluded on Friday.

“This defendant’s actions directly endangered the lives of a child and a police officer, as well as all those who traveled along his route that night. I am grateful to the trial jurors for their service and attention to this case over the course of this week,” Galligan said.

Sentencing is scheduled before Sullivan County Court Judge E. Danielle Jose-Decker for April 29.
