POUGHKEEPSIE – City police prevented a man from jumping off of the Mid-Hudson Bridge Saturday afternoon.

The man was on the span and prepared to jump when he paused to use one of the suicide prevention phones on the bridge.
When the line was connected,he gave his name and told the dispatcher to tell his family he loved them.
Police officers located the man at the railing of the bridge and were able to talk him out of jumping. When the man agreed, officers escorted him to the Dutchess County Stabilization Center for further evaluation.
