Detail to bring Newburgh town police officer’s body home

TOWN OF NEWBURGH – A convoy of police officers will be traveling to Amsterdam, New York Sunday, January 30 to escort the body of Town of Newburgh Police Officer DJ Romano home.

He was killed in a snowmobile accident in the Town of Web on Friday.

The Newburgh Town PBA organized the detail which will meet at the police station at 300 Gardnertown Road at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, January 30 and travel north to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Amsterdam.

The detail will escort Romano to Brook’s Funeral Home in the City of Newburgh.

Agencies wishing to participate in the final state of the escort will meet at the tandem lot off the Thruway at Route 300 across from Stewart Avenue at around 3 p.m. The detail will merge in the lot and continue to the funeral home.

The young officer leaves behind his wife Kate and two daughters, Adrianna, 2, and Alina, 1, according to his brother James Romano, who created a GoFundMe page in his brother’s memory.
