ALBANY – It is anticipated that by the third quarter of 2023, all phone numbers in the 845 area code will be used due to the increase in demand. As a result, the North American Numbering Plan Administrator has applied to the State Public Service Commission to add a second area code to the region.

No new three-digit code has been proposed.

The 845 area code is used in all or part of the counties of Columbia, Delaware, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster.

All current 845 numbers will remain intact.

The PSC is seeking input from the public about the proposal. People may comment by going online to www.dps.ny.gov; by mailing to Michelle Phillips, Secretary, State Public Service Commission, Three Empire State Plaza, Albany, NY 12223-1350; or by calling the toll-free opinion line at 1-800-335-2120.

Refer to case 21-C-0600.
