On January 22, at approximately 12:24 p.m. troopers were dispatched for an emergency medical response to a residence on Mill Road in the Town of Rhinebeck.

Responding troopers found DiStefano dead inside of her residence.  The initial investigation found evidence of suspicious circumstances surrounding her death, according to a police statement.
