KINGSTON – The Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency will be recommending to the county that it end single-stream recycling.

The board members agreed during Monday’s meeting that it is not working and will follow member Tom Kacandes’ advise to put their recommendation in writing.

“It is a totally unproductive exercise to have single-stream recycling. A tremendous amount of material is being wasted, excess trucking, excess expense for the agency. That methods, having been thoroughly tried, has failed in jurisdiction and jurisdiction across the United States,” he said.

County Legislator Manna Jo Greene noted the work the county is doing on the zero waste implementation plan supports source separation.
