Beekman man arrested for assaulting infant

BEEKMAN – A 24-year-old Beekman man was arrested on Monday night by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office for assaulting a baby.  The suspect was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail.

 

On January 24 at approximately 7:50 p.m. sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in the Town of Beekman for a report of a domestic dispute, and upon arrival discovered that a two-month-old baby had been injured.  Deputies were told that the suspect, Tyler Papp, 24, had fled the scene before the officers arrived.

 

Papp was located a short time later, taken into custody and charged with felony assault and misdemeanor resisting arrest after detectives determined that he struck the baby which caused facial injuries.

 

Sheriff’s Lieutenant John Watterson said that the baby was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital and then transferred to Westchester Medical Center for further treatment.

 

Papp was arraigned in the Town of Beekman Justice Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.  His next court appearance is scheduled for January 27.
