GOSHEN – A total of 2,480 new pistol permit applications were filed in Orange County in 2021, the highest number ever in one year.
Undersheriff Ken Jones said while there is no one reason why people seek permits, the perception of public safety, particularly in the home, is a primary factor for many.
“I think that is where people want to feel the safest when they are in their home and if they have no way to protect themselves, then that may account for some of those and I don’t think every single person that gets a gun permit that carries in public, even if they have the right to,” he said.
Over 30,000 people have gun permits in Orange County, Jones said.
