KINGSTON – Kingston High School sophomore Amani Green won the first Vax-to-School two-year scholarship to SUNY Ulster. She was entered into the lottery when she was vaccinated against COVID-19 during the county’s Vax-to-School program last fall.

Green, an honor roll student, has plans to study nursing and become the first in her family to graduate from college.

“I chose to get vaccinated to keep myself and others safe,” said Green.

Kingston Superintendent of Schools Paul Padalino congratulated her for “her bravery and leadership in getting vaccinated.”

Ulster County Executive Patrick Ryan said a second round of the Vax-to-School program is launching for Ulster residents next week. The county Health Department will be administering pediatric COVID vaccines to five to 11-year-olds as well as the vaccine series and boosters to ages 12 and up at elementary and high schools.

Eligibility to win the two-year scholarship during the second round of the lottery will be for anyone five to 17. They may enter by filling out a raffle ticket on site at the Department of Health’s Best Buy POD, at any one of the Vax-to-School PODs, or by filling out the county’s new online form, if vaccinated by a doctor or pharmacist.
