KINGSTON – Ulster County Sheriff Juan Figueroa, County Comptroller March Gallagher and County Clerk Nina Postupack each told the county’s Periodic Compensation Review Committee that going forward, their positions should earn higher salaries.

Addressing the committee via a Zoom-cast session on Wednesday, they each said it may be difficult to fill their positions with qualified candidates in the future if the salaries are not higher.

Committee Chairman Richard Gerentine said their comments will be taken under consideration when the panel drafts its recommendations.

“We are going to try to be fair to everybody. We are going to take in all the information that we can possibly have and come up with a recommendation everybody should be very content in some way, shape or form,” he said. “We might have to do it in two stages if that’s possible because by the time we get this done it will be first quarter we will probably be done for 2022,” he said.

Sheriff Figueroa noted his the case of his office, the undersheriff earns more than the sheriff as do some officers of lower rank because they earn overtime.
