City of Kingston partners with RUPCO for Landlord Assistance Program

KINGSTON – The City of Kingston has partnered with RUPCO, with grant funding from Enterprise Community Partners, to administer the state’s Landlord Assistance Program. The program provides direct financial assistance to landlords with eligible rental units in the City of Kingston.

 

Kingston re-allocated $350,000 in funding from its Anti-Displacement Learning Network grant to RUPCO for specific use of the Landlord Assistance Program in the city. RUPCO has secured $1.5 million in additional funding from Enterprise that will be distributed across Ulster, Sullivan, Orange and Greene counties. RUPCO will handle the application process and funding distribution.

 

With the program, landlords can receive up to $15,000 per unit to assist with qualifying repairs, fiscal distress such as landlord back mortgage/taxes, and back rental assistance. 

All units must be rented to tenants at or below 80 percent area median income adjusted to family size with affordable rents set (see chart below).

“This program will allow landlords to renovate and improve existing apartments, but most pressing and most important, this program will assist in keeping Kingston residents in their homes, and preventing displacement,” said Mayor Steven Noble.
