KINGSTON – An overnight three-alarm fire in a 2 ½ story commercial building kept firefighters busy early Monday morning in the City of Kingston.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 549 Albany Avenue minutes before 2 a.m. and had it under control in a half hour.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found the first and second floors on fire. It rapidly spread to the third floor, resulting in the sounding of a third alarm.

A mutual aid FAST team from the Stone Ridge Fire Department responded to the scene and the crew from Engine #1 extinguished the fire on both floors as other crews searched for any possible occupants.

In total Kingston Fire had 23 personnel both on the scene or manning central station along with mutual aid from Port Ewen and Esopus Fire departments.

The fire was investigated by the Kingston Fire Investigation Unit and determined to be accidental – electrical wiring in the ceiling on the first floor.

There were no injuries as a result of this fire.

The cold temperatures and heavy snowfall made fighting this fire more difficult; however, on-duty personnel were still able to arrive on scene within four minutes and have the fire under control in 28 minutes.

Also assisting on scene was the Kingston Police Department, State Police and Central Hudson Gas and Electric.
