POUGHKEEPSIE – An incident on the grounds of Poughkeepsie High School on Thursday has resulted in a 14-year-old with a stab wound and an 18-year-old charged with assault.

Police were called to the high school Thursday afternoon for a report of a child who had been stabbed.  Responding officers were able to locate the 14-year-old in the school with a minor wound to his hand.  The victim also had knife damage to his thick winter coat, which likely prevented more serious wounds, sources say.

The investigating officers received little cooperation from the victim but pressed forward with their investigation.  An 18-year-old man, who knows the victim, was arrested and charged with assault.

A source told Mid-Hudson News that the victim was possibly stabbed because of a relationship with a female who is also known to the perpetrator.

No additional information was immediately available.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the City of Poughkeepsie Police TIPS line at 845-451-7577.
