MONTICELLO – The Sullivan County fire training tower is going to receive an upgrade and an equipment storage facility will be constructed, all at a cost of $250,000 in state funds.

Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther (D, Forestburgh) helped secure the funding from Albany.

“Importantly, this facility is used by first responders across the county. They do a tremendous job in keeping our county safe and need the ability to train in a proper facility,” said Gunther.

The total project, which will cost $304,000, will consist of $55,000 to address deterioration and make upgrades to the fire training tower at the Emergency Operations Center in Swan Lake, and $195,000 to construct a pole barn for storage.

The county will contribute $54,000 worth of in-kind services to complete the projects.

County Legislature Chairman Rob Doherty said Fire Coordinator John Hauschild “has taken our training to another level in Sullivan County, and this will help him take us even higher.”
