TOWN OF ULSTER – A woman armed with a knife held police at bay for an hour-and-a-half on Sunday morning in an apartment at 779 Neighborhood Road in the Town of Ulster.

Town Police Chief Kyle Berardi said the woman, who was known to have weapons, refused to comply with officers’ commands to come out.

Area apartments were evacuated, and the Kingston/Ulster Police Emergency Services Unit was activated along with a negotiator from the Ulster Police Department.

The woman finally surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.

She was transported to the hospital for evaluation; criminal charges will be filed later, police said.

Also assisting at the scene were Ulster Hose and Kingston fire departments, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, State Police, Mobile Life Support Services, Ulster County Emergency Management and Town of Ulster Highway Department.
