DUTCHESS COUNTY – Dutchess County and the Medical Reserve Corps of Dutchess County (MRCDC) are continuing their battle against COVID by operating vaccination clinics and working with the state to distribute masks and home test kits.  Thursday marked the one-year anniversary of the Dutchess County/MRCDC vaccination clinic at the former JC Penney in the Poughkeepsie Galleria.

On Saturday, January 8, the vaccination site was open for testing, vaccinations, and booster shots.  Residents can be served by appointment or by walking into the site.  Appointments can be made by clicking HERE.  Additional information about vaccines and boosters can be read HERE.

“This process was very easy,” said Robert Musacchio, who was there for a Moderna booster shot.  “It was easy to get an appointment, the staff here are friendly and efficient, and the whole process took about 20 minutes.  They’re doing their part to keep people healthy and I got my booster shot to do the same.”

Dutchess County, like the rest of the country, has seen a sharp rise in COVID infections.  The county currently has more than 7,000 cases and an infection rate of more than 23 percent.

County Executive Marc Molinaro stated the importance of the vaccine site at the mall, which is staffed by both county employees and MRCDC volunteers.  “Thousands of residents and neighbors have been able to access a vaccine thanks to this site, and the tireless work of amazing county employees and remarkable community volunteers.”  The Dutchess County COVID-19 Dashboard with current statistics about the virus can be found by clicking HERE.

The MRCDC volunteers have donated nearly 28,000 manhours in 2021 for COVID-related operations.  MRCDC has more than 400 volunteers from not only the healthcare field but other professions as well.  According to Coordinator Joe Ryan, “The MRC supports Dutchess County’s Departments of Emergency Response and Health when responding to incidents of all kinds. In times of disaster, MRC volunteers both support and supplement local emergency response resources when they are needed most.”

Individuals interested in volunteering with the MRCDC can find more information HERE.

Molinaro praises the work of the volunteers and told Mid-Hudson News “We have been truly blessed by the work of these remarkable volunteers. There is no question, hundreds of MRC volunteers giving thousands of hours of service have brought food, supplies, hope, and saved lives. They are heroes among us.”
