NEW CITY – Airmont Deputy Mayor Brian Downey has been indicted on 117 felony weapons possession charges and three felony charges of possessing counterfeit law enforcement credentials.

The items were recovered by law enforcement after a September raid at his home.

Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Walsh announced the indictment on Friday.

During a court-approved search of Downey’s home on September 2, investigators found 12 firearm silencers, 19 assault rifles, and more than 85 high-capacity magazines, Walsh said.

The raid was a result of information received by the US Department of Homeland Security in September that Walsh was expecting delivery of a package containing an illegal firearms silencer.  Federal and county authorities obtained and executed a search warrant at his house where they recovered multiple illegal and unregistered firearms, firearms, silencers, and fake law enforcement credentials.

The 47-year-old Downey is currently out on bail.
